Now that you have had a chance to use both a blog and a wiki you are to discuss in this post the differences and benefits of both.
Clearly define the differenes of each.
Clearly define the benefits of each.
Give examples of when using a blog vs. a wiki would be useful and why.
Make sure you are using clear sentences and paragraphs.
I think wikis are easier to use. You can have discutions about the topic on the page you are looking at, you can share info with people in your group, also blogs are more about peoples thoughts and opinions while wiki is more about facts.
ReplyDeleteI think that wiki is a little better then a blogger because it is clearer. Also in wiki you can make a certain group and then in a blogger you can’t do that. In a blogger you have to look at the persons profile but in a wiki you can just look at your discussions and you will show you who last commented on it and you can also make different conversations about different things. Then if you ever need help on a paper for school or anything and you can scan it to the computer then you can upload it to the wiki and the people in your group can help you with your assignment. On blogger you can’t do half the things you can do on wiki. If I had a choice between either of these I would pick wiki.
ReplyDeleteSome differences of a blog to a wiki are that blogs deal with a specific topic while a wiki can be on several topics. Some benefits of both are that all the people that are talking about the topic can see each other’s comments and can interact with all the people that are in the group. A blog would be useful for getting messages out to a community or a group of people, while a wiki would be good for sharing information with a community or a group of people.

ReplyDeleteThe deference between wiki and blogger is that u can edit and organize things u post and all your friends can look and edit what u have posted to help you see what u have missed also the both share the same type of social network u can communicate with other people and get opinions on things u have created.

Using Wikis and Blogs are very useful. You are able to combine information and collaborate on ideas to work with people. The benefits of using Blogs is that you can comment on most stuff and express your ideas while seeing what other people have to say at the same time. The downsides of Blogs are that on some things you may not be able to post on locked topics. Another down side is you might not be notified about a new posting if you aren’t subscribed to the blog. Besides, blogs, wikis are another useful device used to collaborate on discussions or group projects. You can see when people are posting, what they are posting, talk about almost anything and its just a really nice way to work with other people. Although wiki is useful it can be a bit frustrating when someone for example makes a topic that you were just about to make and then you have two of the same topics. Therefore communication can be difficult sometimes but at other times this problem is usually avoided. Another bad thing about using wikis is the fact that there aren’t quick responses that could be needed. If you are for say going to turn a project in, and you need one last thing from one of your members they might not see or know that something was posted therefore you lose some valuable information. When using a Wiki, I would most likely want to use it when I’m working with people that I cant regularly talk to, like with people from other states. For blogs I would like to use them with any general discussion but I wouldn’t like to use it to collaborate on a group project especially not with people from far away.
The differences between blogs and wikis is that the wiki you can talk to people like a live chat room and you can make things easier to use then in a blog there is no chat room and there is no people live in their u got to keep refreshing the screen. I think that using a wiki is better because the wiki is easier to use and you have a chat room to talk to and give ideas to people. In a wiki you can discuss your ideas with other people and get feedback to be you don’t have to wait a certain time. The blogs you have to wait to get your feedback and there isn’t a live chat room so you can talk and discuss conversations with your teammates.
ReplyDeleteWell I think a benefit of a wiki is that if someone got information wrong you can correct it right on that post, as with a blog you have to repost something below it rather than just correcting it on theirs. Also the, differences between a blog and a wiki is that a blog deals with one topic where a wiki deals with several topics at once. And another thing, blogs are based mostly on opinions where as wiki’s are mostly about facts. Also blogs are out there for everyone and wiki’s are only for a certain number of people. Lastly a blog only has one page and on a wiki you can go to many different pages with different topics.
ReplyDeleteThe benefits for using a wiki is you get to work with other people. The benefits for a blog is that you can post information and have people comment on it and tell what they think of it. With a wiki you have to start a decoction and the other people have to find it. With a blog the comments are right under the information. A wiki can be used for working together on a project. A blog is where information is posted for others to read you really can’t communicate back and forth with a blog as well as you can with a wiki.
ReplyDeleteWhen determining the difference between a blog and a wiki, I believe that the first step should be finding their true definitions. A blog is defined as a Web site containing the writer's or group of writers' own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other Web sites. A wiki is defined as a Web site that allows anyone to add, delete, or revise content by using a web browser. I believe that the main difference between a blog and a wiki is when a group of people are constantly revising and perfecting a document or are collaborating on a project. A Blog is a web site with periodic, already completed, posts that pertain to a certain subject. A wiki can be beneficial to groups on people working on a single project where they may not be able to meet in person because they can do all of the communicating, revising, drafting and proofing online where everyone can access it. A blog is beneficial for people who are interested in a topic and want to share their knowledge with others, instead of group collaboration. A blog might be more useful when you are constantly updating a group of people on an upcoming event and are constantly adding new information at separate times. A wiki would be more helpful if you had a partner essay to work on and couldn’t get together with your partner so everything could be online.
ReplyDeleteBlogs and wiki’s are both great tools to use when trying to communicate with other people but I believe that it is easier to use a Wiki. Blogs are more like online journals where you post about certain topics and have people respond in a few sentences about what you wrote and how they feel about the topic. While wikis are base more on having long conversations with another person. Communicating with people through Wiki is much easier because it is set up so you are able to see all the conversation at once and are able to share documents with the other people in your group. In Wiki you get both the benefits of the posts you would see on a blog and the conversations you would have through email.
ReplyDeleteBlog VS Wiki
ReplyDeleteBlogs and Wikis are both good online tools to be able to use as reference to things, or to work or communicate with other people. In my opinion, I think Blogs are easier to use. There really isn’t a difference between Wikis and Blogs besides of how they can be used. Meaning, blogs are more like journals that you write about, or talk about one certain thing at a time, for one topic. Wikis on the other hand, you can actually be able to communicate with people, have people to work with on one whole post, and be able to talk about what you are doing with a certain project. Blogs would be more useful if you wanted to just talk about one certain thing, and something you could be able to work alone on. Wikis would be better used for group projects, and being able to communicate easier to be able to complete the project. Benefits of both these, are so you can clearly see what you are doing, it’s easy to use, and both are online and can be easily accessed.

ReplyDeleteThe differences of a blog and a wiki are you can’t re do your post in a blog but you can in a wiki. Also you can talk to either a small group or a large group at once in a wiki but in a blog you can only talk to a large group or small group of people only one blog at a time. Some of the features of a blog and wiki are the same, like you are communicating to people over the internet, and the post can be about anything you want them to be, and they can all be viewed by members of the group.
When you use a blog it is like talking to someone in school, you can ask them for help and other stuff and you can get help with your homework. But it’s not a good idea because anyone can view that page and steal all of that work you put in to a project or even last night’s math homework. In a wiki you can do the same things you can do in a blog but you can have a message be private so nobody sees anything important.
This is my blog post 1/17/12
ReplyDeleteThe difference between a blog and a wiki is a blog stays on one persons profile and other users are not notified by email, and a wiki is used by a whole group . One benefit of a wiki is they are easier and faster to communicate and all users are notified of everything that is going on. All users can also edit and add to list or topic they are talking about.
One benefit of a blog is it is posted by you and it is your own personal post and no one else can change it. These are more useful if you just want to give people an idea about what exactly is going on.
The difference is that a blog allows you to post things on a web page while a wiki allows you to make changes to a web page. The benefit of a blog is that it allows you to share ideas. The benefit of a wiki is that it allows you to write something and people can edit it. A blog is useful if you want to have a conversation because you can make posts and respond. A wiki is useful if you want to plan something because you can edit the page.

ReplyDeleteBlogs and wiki’s are different in a couple of ways. In wiki you can have a discussion with the people you are working with through a discussion stream. In blogs you have to post comments to have a discussion with each other. In wiki you can edit things that are posted by other people. In a blog only the person who posted the comment can edit it. Benefits of blogs are people cannot edit your work therefore it’s all yours and no one else can take credit for it. Benefits of wiki’s are you have more of a chance to having perfect work because you have more people looking it over and correcting it. Using a blog instead of a wiki would be most useful when you don’t want your work to be edited.

Blogs vs. Wikis. Which is better? This is a question mainly derived from personal preference…however, one many occasions there is one that will be better suited to fit the needs of its users. For example, a group of students who need to collaborate on a group project, by sharing files and correspondence, yet have very different schedules would be better suited to work with a wiki because it allows all users of the account to edit the files/text/etc. without having to resend all the information to other members of the group via another e-mail.
However, on the other hand, a blog is better for situations when a “ringleader” wishes to create a situation where they can post lengthy excerpts of text that other web users can read. This is similar to an online journal where one person writes about topic(s) and the readers have the ability to read, and comment on them.
Both blogs and wikis have their ups and downs; but for now let’s focus on the positives; a wiki: allows multiple users to work together and collaborate without even being on the same continent, as long as they are “plugged in.” While on the other hand, a blog: allows users to read the thoughts, and feelings of others without having to have special permissions; however, this forces a blog writer to become more self-conscious about their actions and what the reactions to this may be in the future, whether this occurs in ten minutes, ten days, ten months, or even ten years.

ReplyDeleteNow that I have used both a wiki and a blog, I will outline the differences between the two. A blog is your own personal website; that you can control what is posted, and how it looks. The blog allows you to spread the word to all of your followers, and most of the posting are about you or your opinions on topics. A wiki differs from a blog, because there can be many different people editing the page; it’s a shared site and different members add their own opinions. The wiki is all about sharing and teamwork when a blog is more of a one person deal. \
The benefits of a blog are the control over the page, the creativity of the page, and the fact that it is your page that no one can change your opinions; just give input to you. The benefits of a wiki are the edit buttons that each member can use. It allows teams to work together even if they’re not in the same room, and is easier to use than emailing all of the members of your team.
I think that using a wiki for school projects or planning events is better that using a blog. However a blog is more useful on giving opinions, or spreading information to your followers. A blog is also used more for recreational purposes rather than a wiki.
The differences in blogs and wikis are in blogs could be more of opinions as to where wikis are used more for facts and group work. Blogs are different because you could have only one blog with everyone on it but then if you wanted to make another discussion that it would be hard to get everyone to that blog as to where in a wiki you have them all in the same place. Another difference in a blog and a wiki is that with a blog only the person who created it can change it but with a wiki everyone in the group can also change the page to make it more accurate.
ReplyDeleteThe benefits of both blogs and wikis are that even if you don’t see the person you are talking to you can still get the work done. It is also helpful when you need to plan something in short time. The benefit of a wiki is the edit feature which is where you can edit the entire page and on that note sometimes it’s good that you can’t change it and that’s where the blog comes in handy.
The differences between a blog and a wiki is that a blog is more like a journal where you can talk about anything, from what you did over the weekend to how your feeling. Also on blogger you can post pictures and videos right to Blogger you can change the colors of letters, change what they look like etc. Also on blogger you can follow people whereas on Wikispaces you cannot. The difference between wikispaces and Blogger is you can have an open discussion with your teammates or friends where on Blogger you can’t. People can comment on your blogs and posts but that is not really a discussion. Wikispaces is also more of a forum and chat room site where you can post new discussions and then talk back and forth about them. Also on the side of the blogger site you can describe a little bit about yourself so people get to know you better as a person, and on Wikispaces you can’t do that. Also you can use Blogger as a website to post information about Books, authors, latest news and so on, but on Wikispaces you can’t do that. The benefits of having a Blogger is it’s pretty much like Facebook, you can put anything on there, it’s not a chat website like Facebook but it is very similar.
ReplyDeleteBlogger is great to use if you have a company either through home or nationally you can keep people updated on the latest information. You can also post videos and photos. Another great feature is that you can make your profile private and also people can follow you, so its kind of like Twitter or Facebook. I would view it as a social networking website. Also I think Blogger is great because we can use It for purposes like this where the teacher can post a Blog and as a class we can open it and respond.
The benefits of a Wikispace account is that you can have open discussions or questions with your teammates or friends. You have to join their account to talk to them, but you can pretty much talk about anything. Wikispaces is also a good website to do projects because you can copy and paste documents and let other people review and edit your papers. I think it’s a easy friendly website to let people help you with something when you’re having trouble using technology.
Blogs and Wikis have a lot of similarities and differences. For instance, blogs are more of a personal thing where a single user creates posts about themselves or subjects they care about. Blogs are more like a journal or a place where people can find information about a subject. Unlike blogs, a wiki allows many users to work on one thing at a time. Wiki's are less personal and more business or educational. Wiki's can be beneficial to users working in groups, because it allows them to have easy access to file sharing, critiquing documents, and group editing of a project. Even though each technology has its benefits, some circumstances call for either one or the other. For example, if your working on a project alone or trying to keep a daily journal, you'd want to use a blog. But if your working on a group project where you need to do research on a subject you'd want to use a wiki, because it allows your team to easily share website links.

ReplyDeleteThe differences of the wiki and the blog are that each one is used for a different purpose. The blog is written by one person and comments are left by people who follow that blog and only the author of the blog has the right to edit a post or add to it. On a wiki you have the opportunity to be a part of different groups and different discussions at the same time where as on the blog you are only discussing a specific topic. A wiki is more interactive than a blog. A benefit of the blog would be to inform or ask people’s opinions on something that is going on in the world. The benefit of a wiki is that you don’t have to send multiple e-mails and CC people instead you can just have a regular conversation between 2 or more people. On a wiki is it a lot simpler to fix a mistake or correct something without having to go to the trouble of fixing something on a blog. A good time to use a blog would be when something is in the news and you want to know what other people are thinking about the topic you post something and other people begin to post their opinions about that topic. A wiki can be used to organize a trip or play or something where more than one person is involved in that project.

ReplyDeleteWikis and blogs are both easy ways to communicate when distance is a problem, but other than that they are very different. Wikis have a variety of ways put together. You may have a discussion, edit a document, and also revise pages with others on the Internet. On the other hand, blogs allow you to post and comment, but not much other than that. Of course you can share pages and links, but you can also do that on a Wiki. Also, a blog is very public, while wikis are used for projects between several people or by a small organization.
The benefits of blogs are simple. Blogs allows the public to see it, allows discussions to be started by a post, and allows the blogger to direct the topic of discussion. In contrast, Wikis belong to the eyes of certain groups, projects can be done from across the world, discussions can always be made, and pages and files can be shared.
When something needs to be planned, blogs are not checked enough for a conversation, while a wiki allows discussions simultaneously allows a document or page to be edited. Blogs can be more useful when larger discussions need to be argued. Both wikis and blogs are worldwide, but a wiki guarantees a more fluid conversation across the Internet.
The difference between blog and wiki is that there different web sites and wiki is a more organized and it’s like instant messaging. Then for blogger you have to post stuff and you don’t really know if the people are going to see. Unlike wiki were you send the message strait to the person and they see it right in there inbox. There for I think wiki is way better
ReplyDeleteI think that wiki is so much more difficult to use then the blog. The difference is that wiki you have no clue who you’re talking to, or in my opinion what you’re doing. Everything is complicated and hard to understand. Unlike the blog you can actually understand what they’re doing and what’s going on, who you’re talking to. So in my opinion I think that the blog is way easier for me because its way less confusing.
