Use this blog posting to share information about scholarships that you can apply for as a freshman. Please include the URL and a short description of the scholarship.

You can NOT claim the same scholarship as someone else. First come first serve!

You will find these scholarships on the various web sites that I have given you for this class.

    For this scholarship you have to collect gentley used jeans and take them to a local Aeropostale store. After that you must report back to dosomething.org to be eligable for the scholarship.

  4. Humanist Essay Contest
    This essay contest is for students in grades 9-12 who live in the United States and Canada. To participate in the contest, applicants must write a 1,500 to 2,500-word research-based essay on a topic suitable for publication in the Humanist magazine. Personal, scholarship-style essays do not fit this criteria. The definition of humanism that guides the judging of essays appears on the inside front cover of each Humanist; a free sample copy is available upon request. Selection will be based on originality of thought, sense of emotional engagement, clarity and quality of presentation, amount of research evidenced, and future potential shown by the author.

  5. The Doodle For Google Scholarship
    This scholarship is for students in grades K-12 who are enrolled in US-based public, private, or homeschool programs. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit a piece of original, two-dimensional artwork on a given theme that features the Google logo.

  11. Holocaust Remembrance project Essay Contest
    This essay contest is for students age 19 and under who are currently enrolled as high school students in grades 9-12 (including homeschooled students). Students who are enrolled in a high school equivalency program are also eligible. Applicants must be residents of the United States, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, or Guam, or US citizens living abroad. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit a research-based essay addressing why Holocaust remembrance is so important and what young people today can do to combat prejudice, discrimination, and violence. The ten first-place contest winners must also participate in a "scholar week" in Boston in late June 2012.

  17. This essay contest is for students who are in grades 7 through 12. Level 1 of the contest is for students from grades 7, 8, and 9, and level 2 is for students from grades 10, 11, and 12. To apply for this scholarship, applicants in each level must write an essay that addresses a given topic. Level 1 applicants must write on the topic: "honoring thy father and mother: how and why from your own perspective." Level 2 applicants must write on the topic: "remembering the holocaust: what can be done so we never forget?" Essays must be typed, double-spaced, and a minimum of 250 words.   24. Poetry Out Loud Scholarship Contest
    This scholarship contest involves participating in a series of poetry recitation competitions. To qualify for this scholarship contest, applicants must be high school students and US citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must prepare three poems from the Poetry Out Loud anthology and participate in at least one local competition before state finals, which will be held in early spring 2012. Homeschooled students are eligible for the contest if they participate in a competition at a local school or with other local homeschooled students. Winners of state finals will advance to national finals, which will take place May 15-15, 2012, in Washington, DC. Awards will be given to the top nine finishers at national finals. For more information on how to conduct a Poetry Out Loud competition at your school, contact your state Poetry Out Loud coordinator.

    This program is open to full-time students between the ages of 13 and 18 who are enrolled in a private or public school anywhere in the world. Homeschooled students in the same age group are also eligible. (Eligible minors must have their parents' or legal guardians' permission to enter.) To apply for this program, applicants must create a science fair project in one of the specified categories, either individually or as a group, and submit a video or presentation. Three finalist students or teams will be chosen, one in each age category (13-14, 15-16, and 17-18). Of those three finalists, one will be selected as the grand prize winner and will receive an National Geographic expedition to the Galapagos Islands and a $50,000 scholarship (to be split equally among the group if a team wins). The two remaining finalist winners will each receive a $25,000 scholarship, also to be split equally among the group if a team wins. Entries may be submitted in English, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hebrew, Polish, Japanese, Russian, Dutch, Korean, or Chinese (Hong Kong or Taiwan).
